A new project on the list — Tropa. A co-operative role-playing game that lives in the browser: open a link on your phone and play.
Playing together usually means downloading a client, making an account and waiting for a friend on the same platform. Few people finish that on a phone. Here there is none of it: the account creates itself, a hero takes half a minute, and a friend joins your party from a link — up to eight people.
What is inside
- an outpost and seven zones from level 1 to 40, plus a hidden grove for the attentive;
- five classes — warden, shade, mage, seer, ranger — each with three abilities and an ultimate;
- around fifty creatures: normal, elite, rare, mini-bosses, a dungeon boss and a world boss;
- a dungeon rebuilt on every run, an endless tower and a raid for eight;
- loot in six rarities, upgrading, forging, a talent tree with three branches;
- parties, shared chat, clans, friends and ratings.
How it holds up on ordinary hosting
There is no Node and no persistent connections here, and that shaped the design. The world lives in the server's memory, and the tick is computed by whichever request first notices that time has passed. There is no separate daemon at all: while players are in a zone the world moves; an empty one freezes and frees the memory.
The client is not trusted either. It sends an intent — "I am going there", "I pressed the second ability" — and the server decides what came of it: it checks the distance covered against the allowed speed, keeps cooldowns on its side, and computes damage and loot itself.
Why it opens instantly
Not a single image and not a single sound file: heroes, creatures, ground, icons, hits and music are all built in code. The game weighs almost nothing, opens at once and does not heat the phone. There is a quality switch, and the load drops by itself when the frame rate dips.
